Gold Coast Kings have confirmed the signing of Japanese wide receiver Takashi Kurihara.
Most recently the wide receiver led Japanese team IBM BigBlue to the 2015 Japanese X Bowl with 614 yards and six touchdowns in eight games throughout the season, also making All XLeague first team selection as both a wide receiver and kick returner.
At college level, Kurihara represented the Hosei University Tomahawks, where he played 52 games over four years, winning a national championship in 2006. Kurihara was named MVP of the Kanto collegiate league in 2009, and also picked up the best wide receiver award in 2007 and 2008.
Kurihara, who attended the NFL Veteran Combine in 2015, is an explosive athlete who sports a 4.48 second 40-yard dash and 35 inch vertical leap, and has previously been invited to the Baltimore Ravens camps in 2013 and 2014.
According to the Japan Times, Kurihara is the closest any Japanese player has come to making an NFL roster.
